What's up people, well as the title states yes this is my broken record rant on my comic making and my character design process. So I have been looking at a lot of people's galleries, and I've been amazed by the comic art I see. I've also looked at some muscular styles that were outstanding dealing with female characters. I got hyped on that so much that I went straight back to doing comics and altering my personal goals with my work which was developing my character designs.
In my personal opinion (for at least my art work) character designs is the most important thing you should have before drawing a comic. You can have a hundreds of comic pages done, but if you character designs are off or different in each comic page it brings down the quality of your work. For example, this year I revamped my character Ms. Thang, I was very happy with her at first, but when I started to draw her in the comic, and then I drew her to muscular she didn't look right to me. Now she always been a very toned, curvy, and a voluptuous character, but I lost sight of of my redesign of her. And then I got into my second comic and they started to look to cartoony. So now I'm back to the drawing board. I have to get these priorities for my art work right, if I ever want to get my comics the way I want them. And I have to be honest with myself, I like character design more than making comics, only because I loved the finished look of a character that you have put your all into.
And my "Battle Grounds" comic is a life long dream comic for me, that I knew in my heart of hearts I wasn't ready to do, even in Mini comic form. "Battle Grounds" is really my dumping ground for all the characters I've made over the years (not including my Fantasy comic characters) to come to life. Like Ms. Thang I created her in college, and that was over 25 years ago (Daaaamn I'm old lol). And there are still characters I need to blow the cobb webs off of. Believe it or not I even have male characters (OMG) that I want to put out that I created so long ago. Im getting to age were I want to develop better quality of work than quantity of work. The comics don't mean as much to me as the characters do. Don't get it twisted I love to make these comics but characters aren't ready. So until that time comes no more comics (and I mean it this time lol). But what you guys and gals will see from me are high quality character designs and redesigns. Also more fan art and maybe even drawing other people's great characters in my style.
So I'm sorry if I've disappointed any one looking forward to the comics, and honestly don't know if I'm ever going to get back to them, but I want to be humble and fare to my work, and to the people who look at and support my art work. And as always my thanks goes out to all of you who have been here for me faving, commenting and just being good friends here at DA, you guys and gals are the BEST!!!! Enjoy what's coming and be blessed everybody.
